October 3, 1954 - One of the favorite TV shows of our time was first seen on this day. Father Knows Best began its long run on CBS, then made the move to NBC in 1956. For Jim Anderson (Robert Young) and family, it was a made-for-TV marriage of over eight wonderful years.
Father Knows Best..tv show aired in the 50's and syndication in the 60s. If only life were this simple
Father Knows Best 1954-60....It would go on to become a big hit on CBS and NBC, but the first season of 'Father''s transition from radio to TV earned such low ratings that CBS canceled it. A save-the-show campaign by viewers prompted a pickup by NBC, where the series thrived as a beloved and top-rated family sitcom until star Robert Young wanted to move on and quit the show.
Still of Robert Young, Lauren Chapin, Elinor Donahue, Billy Gray and Jane Wyatt in Father Knows Best
Father Knows Best | Maybe he didn’t always know best, but beginning in 1954 insurance salesman Jim Anderson (Robert Young) of Springfield, Ohio, was America’s favourite head of household.
