“Whatever setbacks he had faced in his life, he said, however daunting or dispiriting the unfolding of events, he always knew that he would make it through, as long as when he woke in the morning he was looking forward to his first cup of coffee. Only decades later would I realize that he had been giving me a piece of advice.” ― Amor Towles, Rules of Civility

Tamara De Lempicka’s most famous painting, ‘Girl in Green with Gloves’, has been an icon to her artistic style and work throughout her career. Painted in 1929, the ‘Girl in Green with Gloves’ displays a beautiful young woman wearing a flimsy green dress, white gloves, and a large, white hat.

Another beautiful Art Deco Hardback from Penguin Classics in their F. Scott Fitzgerald series. He was one of the best short story writers of the 20th century, matched only by Hemingway, and these are fantastic. My favorite was The Cut Glass Bowl, a very clever and haunting tale. Jen@WaterstonesCGdn

Columbus Circle, Manhattan, February 10, 1938 -- The photographer climbed to the ninth floor of the General Motors Building and peered through the Schenley Distillers Corporation billboard for this view of Broadway, Central Park West and West 59th St. Just beyond Gaetano Russo’s statue of C.C., we see the two-story American Circle Building topped by a Coca Cola ad, a sign touting the musical review At Home Abroad and the newly-built Mayflower Hotel in the background.

Evening Dresses for Vogue by Edward Steichen, 1930 - VA Collections - "This photograph appeared in the American edition of Vogue fashion magazine. It epitomises the glamour of 1930s fashion and captures the desirable look of the period. Here you can see a dress made of extravagant and luxurious fabrics. Dramatic contrasts of light and dark bring out the tactile and visual qualities of the silk georgette, satin and ermine fur trim."
