Lapis Lazuli Teapot w/gilded silver & enamelled gold decoration, 1652 ~ from master lapidaries (precious stone cutters) Dionysio & Ferdinand Miseroni (Prague). The carved siren head on handle dates to Roman period & depicts Antonia Minor, wife of Drusus the Elder, mother of Claudius, & grandmother of Caligula. It was carved ca. 36 BC-37 AD, then included (perhaps it as the initial inspiration?) in the composition of the jug - the join in masked by the double string of pearls worn by the siren.

This seems to me to be an unaffected teapot. It is resigned to its utilitarian handle and there are chips. It's for tea and lacks all pretense. Good little pot.
