    4. Favorite summer activity--going to the powwow to watch the fancy shawl dancers. The riot of color, the athleticism, the grace, the smell of the's complete bliss, like walking into a rainbow.

WOMEN'S FANCY SHAWL DANCE For centuries native peoples have gathered together and engaged in ceremonial and celebratory dance. Men’s Traditional Dance, Women’s Traditional Dance, Grass Dance…all are rooted in those days long ago but like much of American Indian culture, these roots are not simply history. Attend any powwow today and you can see these dances recreated by men, women and children in exhibition and competition as lush illustrations of “living history.”

#indigenous When my daughter was small she became very drawn to pow wows and traditional music. A couple of native friends drew us in to the world of pow wows. She danced in the children's dances, and especially liked jingle dances. She is not native to my knowledge, but since she is African American, she could very easily have native ancestry and was likely tapping into the generational memory in her soul.

Always seek the truth within your heart and not within your mind. The truth lives in spirit. Be mindful that your truth may not be the truth of your neighbours and that collectively we possess the truth of spirit manifested in us.
