Launching Writer’s Workshop

Small moment writing

This blog posts tells you how to make a "mini-lesson" that is only ten minutes long! I believe this concept could be applied to any subject.

The Best Story - one of the first books read each year in Writer's Workshop. It's great for teaching where writer's get their ideas. In the end, the main character learns that the best story comes from your heart. After reading it, give each student a paper heart and they fill it with words/pictures of the things/people they love.

Word boxes: If a student doesn't know how to spell a word, they check the card in the box. If it's not there, they bring the card to me, we spell it together, and then the card goes back in its spot when they're done. Promotes independent writers!

2nd Grade Stuff: What Do the Kids DO During Daily 5?---pretty awesome breakdown of Daily Five, I think I'm gunna try this and see how it goes!
