Growing up Jane Eyre was one of my favorite and most beloved books. It introduced me to the Bronte sisters and heavily influenced some of my early reading choices. Reading Wide Sargasso Sea, years later and with the somewhat bitter lens of greater life experience completely changed the way I viewed Rochester, Jane and in fact the whole book. One of the most trans-formative reading experiences I've had so far, I highly recommend it. The first book I ever got signed, the whole experience was awesome. I was in DC, and decided to attend the signing on a whim. I ended up getting into a really insightful discussion with Rebecca and some other attendees that had lingered. Just an all around awesome experience. The book itself is also excellent and does a good job of explaining the experiences of so many women during the '08 election.
