Return to the Sea: Saltworks by Motoi Yamamoto

They say patience is the key. And this is exactly what Japanese artist Motoi Yamamoto needs besides salt when creating his amazing salt installations. It takes hundreds of hours to create one installation. It’s quite a testimony to artist’s patience and discipline.
Large scale installations made of salt by Japanese artist Motoi Yamamoto. A few years ago his younger sister died of brain cancer. Salt is associated with the rituals of Japanese funerals and the installations are, in part, an expression of his grief and remembrance of her.
Japanese artist Motoi Yamamoto creates large-scale installations with the most unlikely medium – salt. When he was in his early 20s, he quit his full-time job to become an artist and a few years later his younger sister lost her battle with brain cancer. Salt is something often associated with rituals at Japanese funerals and this was his way of connecting to memories of her.

Alastair Heseltine, a sculptor from British Columbia, clearly takes two things very seriously: art and firewood. And he just may have the best woodpile I’ve ever seen.

Voyeurist Beauty :: Portraits Painted with Coffee on Century Old Ledger Paper - Michael Aaron Williams
Beautiful Coffee and Ink Portraits on 100-Year-Old Paper - For this new body of work, Michael Aaron Williams, used coffee, carefully brushed onto antique ledger paper from the 1920s & '30s, & a little bit of ink. The artist found the vintage paper in an old abandoned Appalachian store that was owned by his great and great, great grandparents.

The German artist Cornelia Konrads creates hallucinating in situ installations in public spaces, parks and private gardens throughout the world. His work is often punctuated by the illusion of weightlessness, when stacked objects (branch, log, stone) seem to be hanging in the air, increasing the temporary nature of the facility.
