Name Map-This is a great visual getting to know you activity. The teacher creates one and shares it with the class. The teacher then allows the students to create their own "name map". Students could do this in a variety of ways- drawing, on the computer, or collaging.

(possible star student idea) Name maps. Great icebreaker for the day/week of school. Fun way to get to know your students. Makes a cute back to school bulletin board too.

Collaborating with students to establish classroom rules is very important to me. My students and I will work together to establish rules for the year and post them where we can see them.

Snowball Fight...kids write 3 things about themselves on a sheet of white paper. They do not write their names on the paper. Wad it up and on your command, have a "snowball" (or baseball) fight. At the end of 1 minute, each student grabs the nearest snowball and tries to guess who wrote it. Would be great at the beginning of the year!

Use this All About Me sheet as a beginning of year activity. Students can work on this as they are walking into the classroom on the first day of school, while you are busy talking to parents and getting others settled. This sheet can also be used as a guide when students share some facts about themselves to the rest of the class.
