Butcher block table, wood beams, butcher block island, open kitchen. {sp} this is the kind of kitchen island I want. Seating for quite a few, as kitchens are invariably the gathering spot in my house, but plenty of room for putting those guests to work too.

Salvaged ceiling beams, sunlight streaming in, fireplace & open shelving. Perfect.

This hit the repinning fast track. I get it - the angle of the photo draws you in and the warmth of the ceilings and floors make you want to stay. A lot of comments on the light fixtures too. We just sold a place with very similar lighting over the bar in the living room - very dramatic and impactful in person.

want an island like this in my kitchen, will happen when I have my formal dining room!

Of all beams, these win the blue ribbon for me. From this site: www.atlantahomesm...

i used to have two trees in the house, my children had other ideas for them. I miss you, trees.

Lots going on here, but like many elements individually (plate rack, bench, table, floor tiles, chairs and what appears to be placemats (?) placed over the chair seats)

No-Fail Color Scheme Cobalt + Black + White Dark colors have an air of authority about them -- think of colors chosen for uniforms and suits -- that bring gravitas to room décor as well. When you want to create impact with one splash of color, as on this island in a mostly white kitchen, cobalt blue paint plus a black countertop and black chairs do the job.
