Word Identification #2- The Root of it All Bulletin Board. This would be great for learning any prefixes, suffixes, and root words. Have students place similar prefixes, suffixes, or root word on a certain part of the tree. Like un- on the branches and in- on the bark of the tree.

Mrs. Braun's 2nd Grade Class- prefix/ suffix chart

Students formed groups of three or four and collected their materials. Each group received a disposable plate with three sections. The sections were labeled “prefix,” “suffix,” and “root word.” Finally, groups were given a bag of big words. They used scissors to cut the words into parts and drop each part into its respective section on the plate.

Cool foldable for prefixes, roots and suffixes-- morphology is the best way to learn word meaning or at least part of a word's meaning--NOT by writing definitions or sentences!! (see Allington, Rasinski, etc.) --D.E.
