      Don't tell kids thy're smart - tell them they are really working hard! And if we praise kids for their work ethic (I can tell you're making an effort, See what happens when you keep trying?) rather than always praising the results, then they are more likely to try when the task is not easy!

    (G) "Classroom Rules" Have a discussion the first day about what it looks like to follow these rules. ie: be ready to learn- be in your seat, quiet and ready with all of your supplies and books you will need.

    Love this Classroom Rules! poster. Might be cool to have kids create one for school.

    True learning...take the time to include the children in what matters most...serving others, investing in the eternal, making a difference...It's easy to just do it myself without remembering to be intentional about leading my children by including them.

    Books can take you so many wonderful & fantastic places!

    Count to five or hold up one finger at a time when the class needs to refocus. Discuss what occurs for each number at the beginning of the school year and eventually the reaction will be automatic.
