The United States redrawn as Fifty States with Equal Population by Neil Freeman #Map #United_States #Visualization
The United States redrawn as Fifty States with Equal Population- An electorally reformed US map. I live in Scioto!
New United States Map, Redrawn With 50 States Equal In Population, Where Will You Be Living? See the art project by Neil Freeman, in which he redistributes the United States in response to recent criticism of the electoral college system so that there are 50 states with equal populations.
What the US map would look like if each state had the same population (Neil Freeman's "United States redrawn as Fifty States with Equal Population")
Neil Freeman's "United States redrawn as Fifty States with Equal Population" electorally reformed US map
The largest state is 66 times as populous as the smallest and has 18 times as many electoral votes. This allows for Electoral College results that don't match the popular vote. To remedy this issue, the Electoral Reform Map redivides the fifty United States into 50 states of equal population. The 2010 Census records a population of 308,745,538 for the United States, which this map divides into 50 states with an average population of 6,174,911.1
Electoral college reform (fifty states with equal population) Neil Freeman, 2012: The electoral college is a time-honored, logical system for picking the chief executive of the United States. However, the American body politic has also grown accustomed to paying close attention to the popular vote. This is only rarely a problem, since the electoral college and the popular vote have only disagreed three times in 200 years. However, it's obvious that reforms are needed.
Electoral college reform (fifty states with equal population) - The fundamental problem of the electoral college is that the states of the United States are too disparate in size and influence. The largest state is 66 times as populous as the smallest and has 18 times as many electoral votes. This increases the chance for Electoral College results that don't match the popular vote. To remedy this issue, the Electoral Reform Map redivides the fifty US into 50 states of equal population.

The Connected States of America | MIT's Senseable City Lab has analyzed mobile-phone calling patterns across the country. By looking at calls between cellphones, they've revealed states and cities that are closely connected -- and similarly, regions which aren't nearly as closely connected as you'd think.
The Connected States of America. Visualising mobile connections between people in America.
The Connected States of America graphic shows three layers: The United States of America experience an increase in urbanization which is shown in the lowest layer representing the population density per square mile. The center layer shows the mobile connections between the people, where a link represents reciprocal phone calls and the color assigns the respective community which in turn are shown in the communities layer. The height of the link represents call volume between any two counties.

Stephen von Worly got to thinking about the proliferation on McDonald's restaurants, and especially how they relate to society as a whole-- oftentimes, you can find these fast food joints (and others like them) along major highways for the convenience of those traveling long distances. He decided to make a map of the contiguous United States, colored by distance to the nearest McDonald’s:
One of the marvelous things about the Internet: if you have ever had an idle thought ("I wonder how far away you can get from a McDonald's location in the continental United States?") someone else has obsessively, thoroughly researched and answered it. The map shows every McDonald's location in the lower 48 states. The answer to the idle question: 145 miles

More than 10 years after 9/11, more than half of American Muslims say the fallout from the terrorist attacks have made it more difficult to live as a Muslim in the U.S. Yet America's Muslim population is not disillusioned. A Pew Research report found that the vast majority are satisfied with their lives, and they are far more likely to be satisfied with the nation's progress than the general population.

Soil Association polling (pdf) shows healthy eating (55%) and avoiding chemical residues (53%) are key reasons cited by shoppers for buying organic produce. But many also say care for the environment (44%) and animal welfare (31%) are important, as is taste (35%).

I wonder if that's true. If so its pathetic and disgusting. As far as the horse thing goes that is. I'm all for gay marriage.
I had no idea about the horse part... but this makes me more mad that Gay Marriages are not legal in all states. WTF
I can't believe people are allowed to have sex with horses in more states then gay marriage is legal. This is so disappointing...
If Republicans were REALLY worried about people marrying dogs or horses if we legalize gay marriage, they'd start with these laws first!
What! Is this true?! OMG. Gay marriage is legal in 6 states, but having sex with a horse is legal in 23
