This book was reccommended by a friend who is a librarian. It was an enjoyable read and could be given to older teens as well. It is similar to the Secret Life of Bees which I also found worth reading. This book deals with parental mental illness and alcoholism.
“She reminded me that the world was really one bee yard, and the same rules work fine in both places. ..Act like you know what you're doing, even if you don't. Above all, send the bees love. Every little thing wants to be loved.” ― Sue Monk Kidd, The Secret Life of Bees
Defending Jacob was actually hard for me to get into. A book about a father, DA, who is working the murder of a 14 year old boy when his own son becomes the prime suspect. Although it began slow and had a dull climax the ending I honestly did not see coming, which in turn, made the book worth reading. I'm a sucker for an unsuspected ending.
At age 18 and after a mission trip to Uganda, Katie Davis found herself so moved, so broken by the people and the children of Uganda that she knew her calling was to return and care for them. "I believe that we were each created to change the world for someone." #readinglist
