#6 During World War I the radio industry was put under temporary control of the U.S. government. The Westinghouse Electric Manufacturing Company became one of the radio industry's prominent leaders. It was the first company to broadly market radio receivers to the general public. In 1920 and 1921 four well off stations were established in Pittsburgh, Boston,Chicago, and New York City. In December 1921 the Department of Commerce issued regulations for the broadcast service.
