Ellen Miriam Hopkins (October 18, 1902 – October 9, 1972) was an American actress known for a wide variety of roles Hopkins became a chorus girl in New York City. In 1930, signed with Paramount Pictures, and made her official film debut in Fast and Loose. Her first great success was in the 1931 film Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde,Hopkins had well-publicized fights with he Bette Davis ,Hopkins believed Davis was having an affair with Hopkins' husband.
Miami, August 1942 — Newly inducted Corporal Clark Gable “loses his mustache to Uncle Sam,” having been informed upon enrolling in the Army Air Forces Officer Candidate school that regulations forbid anyone less than a first lieutenant to sport a mustache. Gable immediately went to a barber shop, where half of his mustache was shaved off by the barber. Then, “for the benefit of news cameramen,” the former actor finished off the job himself.
