The original 'Chex Mix'. I could NOT figure why this wonderful yummy addicting snack was discontinued. Chex Mix is OK but not a match for my memory of doodads. Another mysterious loss was Planters Cheese Balls. yet another was Pepperidge Farms Brownie Cream Filled Sandwich cookies.
Nabisco - Doo Dads: WAY better than Chex Mix. Had a better seasoning. Loved these growing up. Please, Nabisco, bring them back!

Major Dad is an American sitcom created by Richard C. Okie and John G. Stephens, developed by Earl Pomerantz, that originally ran from 1989 to 1993 on CBS, starring Gerald McRaney as Major John D. MacGillis and Shanna Reed as his wife Polly. Wikipedia First episode: September 17, 1989 Final episode: April 16, 1993 Network: CBS
'Major Dad' TV series - at the time the series aired, my DH was still on active duty attached to Camp Pendleton. The series gave us a much needed comic relief, while supporting our Marines. My favorite character was Gunny Bricker (Beverly Archer.)

"Return to the 80s. This is what I had. My kids have tiny iPods instead. Never could have imagined that!"
Stereos of this era triggerred a great deal of anger from men in the 80s. Between kids fingerprints inevitably smearing the glass doors and shorting crosswires I remember my life being threatened just by walking around the "sound system".

Just Like Dad Candy Cigarettes. I didn't know they still made these. I remember them from when I was a kid. As an adult I see it's a HORRIBLE idea though.
HA! Candy Cigarettes! I remember these! ~ I loved these! I wonder how many kids started smoking the real thing because of these...
I remember candy cigarettes and pretending like I was smoking them. I wouldn't get them for my kids today.
Just Like Dad Candy Cigarettes... I remember getting candy cigs in my halloween bag when I was 5. My mother broke them up into little pieces so I could eat the candy but I wouldn't try to look like dad and "smoke" them.
Candy Cigarettes – just like Dad! (These were sold in the 1960's, with all the other candy. Disgusting.) Weird but true! yep, i even remember their flavor
What 70s child doesn't remember eating candy cigarettes "Just like Dad"? someone would be jailed if they made this for kids now!
CANDY CIGARETTES for the kids . . . they could "smoke" just like dad. I haven't thought of these in decades! That was back when smoking was totally acceptable.
Just Like Dad Candy Cigarettes Does anyone else remember candy cigs. Wow.

Vintage ad for Black Jack Gum • Glenwood Heights Grade School, late 1950s. Going home, Jackie and I were the last to dropped off. J. lived across the road from Mr. Beers' farm (our bus driver). Sometimes he stopped at the little store and hop back on the bus with Black Jack gum. It's etched in my memory because I don't care for black licorice ...
Great old time gum. I was once on a road trip with my parents when I fell asleep in the back window ledge of our car, with this gum in my mouth. It was hot. When I woke, Black Jack gum was matted in my hair. It was quite a task to clean it out.

I love the scent of old spice because it is what my grandfather and dad use to wear... what a wonderful memory!
Old Spice. I bought my dad a bottle every Christmas...and he always acted surprised when he opened it. I miss him.
I've kept a bottle of my Dad's Old Spice and every once in awhile I'll open it. It's amazing how a certain scent can bring back so poignant memories. I miss you, Dad.
This is what my dad use to wear. He always smelled so nice. We bought every Christmas for him
Old Spice ~ ah, reminds me of my dad who just passed away :( I'll never forget that smell.
After Shave of choice for most dads, or for gift giving to your dad at Christmas time.
My dad is still an "Old Spice" guy... I must admit, I still lke the scent...
I think of my Dad when I smell this! I gave his this every Father's Day!
Oh what memories! All my boyfriends smelled like Old Spice!
Yes, it was just something we lived with! LOL I think it was the early 90's before we had a TV w/ a remote.
Time, Childhood Memories, So True, 50 S, Remote, Walk, Kid
Yes .... even that little bit of exercise has now become too much for us lazy people to endure. Perhaps we should keep our remotes on top of the TV across the room and walk to it every time a show ends, like we used to do.
No couch potatoes back then AND no such thing as a remote! Remote meant secluded or something far away (like the TV) LOL!
changing channels--oh, so true! we kids were often used as the "remote control", and we were not allowed to sit too closely to the TV or it would "ruin our eyes".
And...we only had 3 channels. Yep! and our kids have it good, every tv comes WITH a remote AND batteries! LOL
I remember having to walk to the TV to change the channel. I was also the family remote control, when they'd want the channel changed, they'd make me get up and do it... LOL!
changing channels--oh, so true! Kids were often used as the "remote control"............... IT'S TRUE........ WE HAD NO TV REMOTE CONTROLS MOST OF MY LIFE!!!
When i was your age, we had to walk to the TV to change the channel! We had to turn a dial with numbers on it to select the channel we wanted! We had a choice of channels 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 11, and 13, and we were happy to get them! Those were trying times indeed!
We kids were the remote controls to change the channels, so we sat in the floor real close to the TV! And...we only had 3 channels. THREE!
changing channels--oh, so true! And...we only had 3 channels. THREE! Best childhood memories!
