One of my favorite books and movies.

Kathryn Stockett shares with us that she felt presumptuous as a Southern white woman trying to write in the voice of a Southern black maid. I don't know if she achieved her goal, but I do know that her characters are alive and vibrant and poignant and courageous. They speak in the voice of the indomitable Southern woman and this is a very, very good book. Yes, it made a great movie.

Loved the book! I am just getting ready to watch the movie tonight and thought I would add it to my list of books worth reading.

We read this for our women's Lit Group, saw the movie together (22 of us!) and can't stop talking about it. When you've lived through the Civil Rights movement, this becomes very personal . . .

The Help by Kathryn Stockett. I read this before seeing the movie, which was also good. Great book to discuss in book clubs. Great characters too.

A Wild Vortex of Books Flying Right at You. Wolfman's Books, Oakland

The Forgotten Garden: A Novel. I loved this book. A little girl who ends up alone on a dock is raised by the dockmaster and his wife. The story follows her life as she tries to figure out where she came from.

This is brilliant. Books make you THINK So for this nerdy after school club I'm in, you have to give a 2 minute oral speech about a topic you feel strongly about. My speech is about why books are better than movies. BAM.
