Sleeping sperm whales by Magnus Lundgren. Whales are voluntary breathers, so only half of their brain can sleep at any time - they have to think to breath! Scientists found this out the hard way when they tried to put a dolphin to sleep for an operation. Its whole brain was asleep so it could not think - it's time to take a breath! The Beluga Whale also called The White Whale can mostly be found in Artic waters and become their brilliant white color around 5 yrs. of age. They are considered a smallish whale between 13-20' long and live 35-50 yrs. in the wild. They should never be kept in captivity.... it is inhumane and unjust. All whales should have the roam of the ocean!
Everyone knows whales are huge. In fact, the Blue Whale is the largest known animal to have ever existed (source). Roughly the length of a basketball court, these majestic creatures are a sight to behold. In this startling image, we see a kite surfer likely unaware that this colossal mammal is right below him.
So majestic. Constantly Reminds me how small we really are. And GOD created this majestic, beautiful creature.
