I ask for silence and I only want five things. One is an unending love the second is to see autumn. the third is a grave winter, In fourth place is summer. The fifth are your eyes I don't want to sleep without your eyes, I don't want to be unless you look at me: I would trade the spring in order for you to keep looking at me. (this translation may be very poor) Pablo Neruda
Julio Cortázar was an Argentine novelist, short story writer, and essayist. Known as one of the founders of the Latin American Boom, Cortázar influenced an entire generation of Spanish-speaking readers and writers in the Americas and Europe. He has been called both a "modern master of the short story" and, by Carlos Fuentes, "the Simón Bolívar of the novel." He was a supporter of the Sandinistas in Nicaragua as well as Fidel Castro's Cuban revolution and Salvador Allende's socialist government in Chile.
