The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel [2012] films

  • Jonathan Moya

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel I suspect is a clever metaphor for the British theater and movie older star system: promise the senior thespians dreams of Shakespeare, good roles in nice but inexpensive productions and hope they will see the beauty and not the shabbiness of it all. John Madden (Shakespeare in Love) directs with a high gossamer gloss knowing the trans-formative Indian mystique and setting would hide most of the plot bull. A B+.

To be honest, I’d never heard of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (or even These Foolish Things as it was originally titled) until Judi Dench, Bill Nighy, Maggie Smith and a whole host of other famous faces made it a big screen success. Of course, with a cast like that failure isn’t really an option, but would the book live up to my high expectations after belly laughing my way through the movie?

Clarence: Strange, isn't it? Each man's life touches so many other lives. When he isn't around he leaves an awful hole, doesn't he?

The Vow movie- seen it. Different, cute love story.

Based on the book of the same name, this wonderful family film involves a 10-year-old girl & her Dad, who is a pastor. A best friend forever kind of dog adopts the girl & she him, & together they set about the task of bringing a town of lonely & eccentric folks together as friends. Wonderful cast, including Dave Matthews, who has some of the best scenes in the movie, as a eclectic substitute pet shop manager, who sings to the animals...of course!

Stuck in Love (2012) - A quiet movie about a family of writers who are all responding in their own way to the parents' divorce. Love, expectations, trust, & potential are all addressed in a non-flashy way by a great cast. So glad I randomly watched this on OnDemand last night. Wish it was a TV series so I could get to know them all more, see what happens next. ~ Kim Bongiorno LetMeStartBySaying
