Jesus speaking in John 15:14-15 "Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you."
Love that it has corresponding verses! “In the same way, prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare. Pray hard and long. Pray for your brothers and sisters. Keep your eyes open. Keep each other’s spirits up so that no one falls behind or drops out.” Ephesians 6:18 (The Message)
Absolutely true. Going to Mass on Sundays is actually the bare minimum. We should also receive Communion and Penance regularly, and develop an active prayer life. Because of how much it lays out the spiritual logic of Salvation in Christ through the Church, I can't recommend the daily Rosary enough. If surrendering your life to God seems daunting, then doing these things allows Him to take over itty bit by itty bit.
Prayer is just talking with the Father. It is not necessary to read words written by someone. If you are a parent, and your child came to you for comfort, and he started to read words from a piece of paper, and recite them to you. What would you think? Simply talk to your Father. He is always there.
