Thank you for entrusting me with your project! Brandy ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Description This is a great way to cover an ordinary table, provide storage and change the look of your space! I like using a cotton fabric I call "poor man's linen" ... it is 100% cotton, but looks like a nubby linen... super soft and just the right weight for this type of tablecloth. Can be seen in pictures 2 and 3. First picture is courtesy of Charles Birdsong Designer Southern Living Please provide table dimensions length width and height to floor for fabric/yardage estimation details include .... seams finished with "zig zag" to prevent fraying 2" double hems I will create a Custom Tableskirt with overlapping flaps so you can easily store things underneath and slide a chair in under your table. Front panels/flaps have two or three inverted pleats (if so desired) - style can me modified to your liking - you can add covered buttons at top of pleats, trim at hem ... etc. Another choice is to have deep inverted pleats at all 4 corners with a continuous skirt instead of flaps... like the picture with the damask fabric... you can also have the inverted pleats be a contrasting fabric to add some interest! fabric can be provided by customer ... or I can supply "poor man's linen" for an addl $40 charge. convo me for yardage requirements Timeline: 4 weeks from payment
First of all, a BIG thank you to Rene from COTTAGE AND VINE for showing our bookshelves on her blog. I love her style as a designer and felt honored to be featured. We were blessed to inherit a beautiful German piano from my late grandmother, who was a talented pianist. My husband and I play a little and our girls are taking lessons. Since the library wall is complete we wanted to finish this space by hanging art above the piano. Now- what to put above it? Here is a before shot. I looked around to get ideas before I started and here are some images below that helped me come up with the direction I wanted to go in. via via Emily Clark New York Social Diary via Can anyone tell me the theme? Ding ding ding- botanical images hung by a grid pattern! Really, there are many options for art above a piano like a mirror, a large scale art piece, or a gallery wall look. However, I really liked the idea of using the botanical prints neatly lined up high in the shape of a rectangle. I bought the frames from JoAnn's on clearance and the lamps came from Home Goods. Also, I'm thinking of upholstering the bench so it might be a bit more comfortable. This is the book I used for the framed prints. I absolutely LOVE botanical images and this book is a great one. You can get it here. I'm loving having these botanical prints in our library/music room. I feel it adds some great color into our space.
Now that I moved the secretary into the dining room to act as a bar, I had a lack of flat surfaces in the foyer ... an important element, given the amount of mail I bring in daily (along with keys, cell phones, wallets, magazines ... you get the picture, right?) So I started looking for inspiration, and voila. The wonderful thing about a skirted table in the foyer is the sheer versatility of it. In a pinch you could use it as a server, a bar, a desk, (and if you have a blog - they make great blog posts! tehehe) so I figure it was time for Casa dela Vanderdogan to have one too. I've made the table (an archaic blend of 12" pine and 2x2 firring strips) but now it's time to make decisions on fabric. Any ideas?
I needed a really odd sized table. Something really narrow, but kind of long. Like a console table, but smaller. I'd pinned a few skirted console tables on Pinterest like this one: Design by Jan Showers So it occurred to me that it would be super easy to make a skirted table because no one would know what the actual table looked like! So I went to Home Depot and bought 4 deck baulsters (for $.89 each) to use for table legs. I just planned to screw these into a spare piece of pine board to make the table. Deck Baulsters - $.89 Each at Home Depot - Great for making wobbly table legs! Obivously I am not a master carpenter, but even I knew that this table would probably be super rickety. So I found these rubber leg tips. Of course the rubber leg tips were meant for round legs, apparently like for crutches or walkers. And my deck baulsters were square. And you know that old saying about square pegs and round holes. But whatever, I like to learn my lessons first-hand. Anyway, so whoever said you can't put a square peg in a round hole obviously wasn't trying hard enough. Or the peg was too big. I managed to get the tips on the legs and the legs screwed to the board pretty quickly. It was still pretty rickety so I ended up adding an apron to further stablize the table. Then I made a table cloth to cover it. Viola! Skirted console table DIY Skirted Console Table I certainly wouldn't dance on this table. But I never dance on tables anyway. Only bars. Dancing on tables is tacky. But it is sturdy enough to hold a vase and couple of picture frames. Yes, it is an amazing feat of engineering! Capable of supporting the weight of not one, but TWO picture frames, a vase, a book and an empty jar. I don't want to push it with the jar. Most importantly, the skirt hides my router, roller skates and a couple of other random objects that I have no place for!

We have a sad, little console table that sits underneath one of the DIY circle prints in our dining room. I hadn't given this table much thought since putting it in the dining room, but I knew that I needed to do something with it to help bring together the look of the room. Even though mine was neglected, console tables are a great way to bring color and unexpected accessories into any room or hallway. via Alice Lane Home via DecorPad via DecorPad via DecorPad I wanted to accessorize the table using things we already had. And by "things we already had" I mean Clay threatened divorce if I spent any more money on accessories. Because Brooklyn isn't the greenest city in the world, I like to have plants in each of the rooms in our apartment. Because I find most house plants ugly and hard to keep alive, preserved boxwoods are my favorite "plant" to use in decor. Not only do they look great and bring a pop of green/life into any room, they also don't need to be watered. Just mist them whenever they start to look a little sad. I picked up this one at HomeGoods. I think it is this one from Restoration Hardware, only I paid $50 instead of $145. I practically threw it in my cart when I saw it. If you don't have luck finding a preserved boxwood at a store like HomeGoods, the Restoration Hardware boxwoods are great quality and well-priced. The frame holds the poem that Clay's dad wrote to him on our wedding day. I love framing notes, drawings, and cards from our loved ones. The gold stones say "believe," "hope," and "peace" on the underside and were given to me by my mom before the big move to NYC. I stacked the books to bring more color into the room. I love the look of stools/benches layered underneath console tables. I picked up a really beat up stool from our local thrift store for $15, spray painted it gold, painted the feet black, and added a cream linen to the seat cushion. Eventually I think I'll paint it a more exciting color, but it works for now. Since throwing this together I've also added a small floral acrylic painting that I picked up at the flea market. Other console table ideas you could try are leaning art or a mirror against the wall, accessorizing a pretty tray, displaying a collection, or adding an interesting lamp (or pair of lamps). Regardless of how you decide to accessorize your console table, I think it's always a good rule of thumb to display something natural and add some height. Of the images above, which do you like best? Any other tips for accessorizing console tables?

I mentioned a few months back that I purchased this Target Console Table and my entryway was in need of some sprucing up. Here is my previous post I did sharing some of my Entryway Inspiration. I have finally completed this mission and have been meaning to share the details with you (like months ago...sorry). Previously we had a bench and coat rack in our entry but have to say i'm so much happier with this table! I love having a lamp to turn, place to put our keys, light a candle so it smells yummy when you walk in, and a little space to decorate when the holidays approach! So here's the final outcome.... I can't believe I scored this table for about $100 from Target!! I added a new pull handle from Pottery Barn for around $10 and couldn't be happier with the finished look! I used coffee table books and a coral that we already had to add to the bottom shelf. I purchased the big basket at TJMaxx for under $15 and tossed in an old throw blanket we had stashed in a drawer. Now I will tell you we went through several lamps before finally deciding to keep this one. It was an on going joke in the house when the hubby would come home and see yet ANOTHER lamp on the entry table lol. The truth is I really just didn't want to spend a ton on a lamp for this table. I finally decided on this one from Pottery Barn. I had been eyeing it for over a year and quickly snatched it up when I saw it was on sale for half off a few months ago!! It was such a score and was only missing the top screw on part but they just gave me one from another lamp and I was out the door! The only piece that I really spent a pretty penny on was this distressed mirror from Restoration Hardware. I have a WEAKNESS for distressed mirrors and just love how it pulled all the pieces together! Here's a closer look at the knob from Pottery Barn Next up...some tweaks to the dining room!
