      The Prairie Nut Hut in Altoona, Kansas is a unique little bar and grill that is worth a visit. Nominated for the 8 Wonders of Kansas Cuisine. | Originally opened in the 1940s or 50s (the present owners are uncertain), the Prairie Nut Hut was operated as the A Tavern and well known for serving mountain oysters until closing in the 1980s. It was reopened mid 1990s I was stranded in this town for 8 hours!! Met a lot of nice people and even went for a run. When my dad arrived we ate here . Krauck

    CONWAY SPRINGS, Kan. (AP) — An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.8 shook parts of Kansas and Oklahoma on Wednesday, the largest since a series of temblors began rattling Kansas a little more than a year ago.

    Geologists in the state of Kansas now say that a recent string of mysterious earthquakes may have been caused by pumping chemicals into the ground as part of the controversial gas and oil extraction process known as hydraulic fracturing, or fracking.
