I really like this idea for classroom rules in a first grade class. It s very simple and to the point, yet it is intriguing to the students because of the visuals. Another thing I like is that the rules are all positive, there is no use of the words 'no' or 'don't' in them.
Quiet Critters - when you decide it's important for students to be quiet, pass out the quiet critters. Take them away from students who talk. At the end of the activity anyone who still has a quiet critter gets a prize, point, whatever you use. cute!
Plastic plates from wal-mart work as dry erase boards for the classroom. They are small but perfect for fast answer questions where I could as the whole class a question and instead of only one of them answering me, they all write down an answer and show me at the same time. This way I can see which students are cognitively engaged in my classroom.
I love the desk arrangement in this classroom. Open group concept. Student desks are in groups, but all face the smart/white/chalk board. Also- check out the extra desk used to house supplies. Such a great idea!
