Charleston Benne Cookie recipe. We've been told by a Miss Beck Johnson (of the Sims family) who, as a little girl, spent a lot of time at Foxbank in the early 1900s recalls they used much less benne seed than the modern recipes. Miss Beck still makes these cookies today. Benn Cookies, Wafer Cookies, Baking Cookies, Cookies Recipes, Benn Seeds, Sesame Seeds, Seeds Cookies, Simply Recipes, Delicious Food

Benne Wafers — The BEST Southern cookies ever! Makes about 50 cookies. Ingredients: 1 c brown sugar, packed, 6 T butter, 1 egg, beaten, ½ c AP flour, ¼ tsp salt, ¼ tsp baking powder, 1 tsp vanilla, 6 T toasted sesame seeds. NOTE: Do not use cooking time as listed - watch carefully, mine were done & perfect at 7 minutes - different time with a dark cookie sheet, different ovens. If sliced ultra thin from a frozen roll, usually done at 5-6 min w/325 oven.
These traditional southern Benne Wafers are a special treat, and quite addicting too! They also make a great gift during the holidays so make an extra batch or two to share.
