Key Frames: dancing figures light up the night With low-energy LEDs

  • Fi Brown

"Key Frames" light installation lit up the night in Lyon, France with a choreographed display of over 60 illuminated stick figures. Conceived by French art and design studio Groupe LAPS, the dynamic creation was originally unveiled at the Fête des Lumieres 2011, although since then the display has traveled around the world. Made from low-energy LED light tubes, the troop of stick figures flashes on and off in time to original music composed especially for the installation.

Using LED light tubes, Key Frames consists of multiple static stick figures that, when paired with a dance soundtrack, flash on and off in a choreographed display that evokes movement. Totally fun. Originally designed for the Fête des Lumieres 2011 in Lyon, France, Key Frames was just included as part of the iLight festival at Marina Bay in Singapore.

Bruce Munro. Field of Light. "There are so many really nice light sculptures/art installations out already, but Lighting designer Bruce Munro shows that there are never enough. And that they keep getting even more beautiful. Munro´s famous Field of Light (an apppropriate name) will be shown at the Eden Project in Cornwall, England, this winter. It was inspired by the way the desert flowers after a rainstorm."
