love love love this lesson idea. Students make campaign posters for the presidents from the children's books and then they make voter registration cards. They have a mock Election Day as well. Students are experiencing the voting process. Also asking students what they would do if they were president. Definitely would use this in s younger classroom setting.

Student voter registration card. We could use these cards when we hold our classroom election.

Voter Registration Card. Grade Three Government Strand Topic- Civic Participation and Skills Standard- 9. Members of local communities have social and political responsibilities. I would read Woodrow for President by Peter W. Barnes. Then we would hold an election for president of the third grade. We would make these voter cards and have to present them before they can vote. We would have campaigns and debates for the students to get an idea of what our democratic duty is.

This is an activity that uses coke and pepsi to teach students about the electoral college, part of the voting/election process. Each student in the class will get to represent a state's electoral college vote, they will choose either pepsi or coke, and then the class will tally up the votes to see which drink wins in the electoral college. Students will be informed about the way our government works through this activity, and they will be more prepared to be participatory citizens.

Great Social Studies "where do I live" activity! I laminated the cards so students can do this as a daily practice by using dry erase markers to write and erase their personal information.
