He was the most frequently featured photographer in "Camera Work" (1903 to 1917). His "Little Galleries of the Photo-Secession" (later known as 291), was among the first to present American exhibitions of Matisse, Rodin, Cézanne, & Picasso. Steichen's photos of gowns by couturier Paul Poiret are considered the first modern fashion photographs ever published.
