Here are some tips to reduce sun damage and protect your skin starting today: -APPLY SUNSCREEN. Choose a broad spectrum sunscreen with a rating of at least SPF30 and apply 30 minutes before exposure to the sun. Reapply at least every 2 hours or directly after physical activity like swimming or sweating. Also, remember that UV rays reflect off of water, concrete, snow, and even sand, and penetrate fog and water so wear sunscreen all year long regardless of the weather or season. -WEAR SUNGLASSES. Choose wraparound sunglasses with a wide lens that fit close to your face to prevent UV rays from entering through the sides. Also, how dark the lenses are has nothing to do with how protective they are so make sure to check that they protect from both UVA and UVB rays. -CHOOSE PROTECTIVE CLOTHING. Dark, tightly-weaved clothing provides better UV protection than loosely weaved, light clothing. Some clothing is even manufactured now to provide broad spectrum sun protection. -WEAR A HAT. Choose a wide brimmed hat with dark, tightly woven material. -LIMIT SUN EXPOSURE DURING PEAK HOURS. The sun's rays are generally strongest between the hours of 10am-4pm depending on the season. Try to plan outdoor activities for the early morning or evening. -TINT YOUR CAR WINDOWS. Although the glass windows in our cars shield us from cold, wind, and rain, they do not protect us from the damaging effects of the sun and Bill McElligott is proof. Tinting your car windows can cut down significantly on the amount of UV rays penetrating your skin.

Since July, I've been working out pretty regularly (4-5 times a week) on my eliptical. I had always wanted one and Tom's friend was selling theirs so he bought it for me as a graduation gift for completing my Masters. I love it, but it doesn't target my muscles. It's a great cardio, but I feel like I'm missing some strength and muscle toning so...I have looked through countless issues of Self Magazine, Shape Magazine and Weight Watchers looking for a short, effective workout that I wouldn't dread and finally found one on Pinterest. It's called the "100 Workout" which is catchy and sounds like it would make me sweat. Yes, yes it does! As soon as I started I knew the the entire thing would be too much for me right now. So I cut each workout component in half. Here's the original... So here's how I adapted it. I plan to work up to the full workout....I suppose I make up for it by doing the eliptical for 30 minutes instead of running for 10. 50 JUMPING JACKS 45 CRUNCHES 40 SQUATS 35 LEG LIFTS 30 JUMPING JACKS 25 CRUNCHES 20 SQUATS 15 LEG LIFTS 10 JUMPING JACKS ELIPTICAL FOR 30 MINUTES My abs, thighs and calves were a really good sore for the first few days. I think it's helped me to sleep better too. Good luck!
