He was the first designer to bring street wear, like the leather jacket, into a couture salon and transformed menswear items like the tuxdeo and fedoras for women. His long career influenced fashion during the 2nd half of 20th century through today.
Yves Henri Donat Mathieu-Saint-Laurent, known as Yves Saint Laurent, was a French fashion designer, and is regarded as one of the greatest names in fashion history.

One of the most influential and brilliant fashion designers of all time and my personal favorite, Yves Saint Laurent
Yves Henri Donat Mathieu-Saint-Laurent, known as Yves Saint Laurent (1936-2008) was a French fashion designer, and is regarded as one of the greatest names in fashion history. He can be credited with both spurring the couture's rise from its sixties ashes and with finally rendering ready-to-wear reputable. He is also credited with having introduced the tuxedo suit for women and was known for his use of non-European cultural references, and non-White models.

Is there any job in the world more lucrative then being somebodies Muse? Doubtful. Musing comes with oodles of responsibility, and you might not get health insurance, but you certainly get some benefits. We imagine this role would consist of lounging on a vintage velvet chaise, while downing pink champagne and making important quips by day, and sashaying around very edgy social gatherings by night. On top of all of that good stuff you've still got some famous artist or designer totally thinking you're the cats meow, and one hell of a woman - sounds ideal if you ask us. If you have an interest in becoming a Muse here are a few characteristics you should probably possess... 1. Aristocratic lineage or celebrity 2. Have a tendency to abuse narcotics or alcohol / any sort of emotional trauma 3. Unusual name / interesting ethnic blend / unique face 4. Partake in lots of hobnobbing with fascinating people high on the social register 5. The ability to mask all of life's problems with extreme charm and wit 6. Avant garde wardrobe, focused heavily on designer and vintage pieces *Historically a self destructive nature has been pretty high up there on the list. We aren't encouraging it - just noting. *Also take into consideration that while your man may be totally cool and creative, he may also be totally broke - so a trust fund is a good thing to have. Edie Sedg blew though about 80k of hers in 6 months on lots of clothes, car services and drugs. Good luck ladies, we are rooting for you. Edie and Andy - she had the emotional trauma, narcotic abuse, and self-destructive nature down pat, but look at the admiration in that mans eyes. Givenchy and Audrey - very upper echelon. Ralph and Ricky - The man has named 75% of his line after her, true love. McQueen and Blow. Both had tragic ends, but better to burn out then fade away....maybe? Yves Saint Laurent has referred to former Chanel model Betty Catroux as his 'twin' and 'female incarnation' . Catroux has said she 'had a fairy tale life with him'. Madonna and Gaultier, cone bra helllloooo. "young and sweet and innocent and beautiful, epitome of this girl I fantasize about" Picasso focused his efforts on two lucky ladies - Marie-Therese Walter (above) and Dora Maar. When the rivals got jealous and made him choose, Picasso (being the P.I.M.P. that he is) made those two wrestle it out. Have a little self respect ladies, my goodness. Personally, not sure we would be sticking around if this is the portrait that came out of all our inspiring ways. However, we do see the resemblance. Dora Maar. Well if it isn't Jeff Koons and his pornstar / politician ex-wife Ilona Staller. This gem was the inspiration behind his 'Made in Heaven' series. True love bunnies.

Designer Yves Saint Laurent
Yves Saint Laurent originally from Oran, Algeria. Yves first became interested in fashion though theatre which he was fascinated with. He would read theatre reviews in Vogue and then later began to take interest in the descriptions of costumes and this led him to read fashion editorials, soon he then became interested in fashion design. In 1953 YSL entered a young fashion design contest organised by IWS. He only won third place. He was invited to the award ceremony in Paris, While at Paris YSL met up with Michel de Brunhoff Editor -in -chief Vogue Magazine in Paris. Yves brought his sketches along and Michel loved them and advised him to study at the cambre Syndicale de la Couture. The next year YSL entered the IWS competition and this time he won. He then showed his sketches to Brunhoff who noticed his sketches were quite similar to that of Dior, the similarities were in the strokes of the pen also the layouts of the clothing in the sketches. Brunhoff sent him to Dior who hired him in a heartbeat. Yves St Laurent started to work with Dior, the first year that St Laurent started he was doing minor jobs such as decorating the studio and also designing the accessories for collections, after a year Dior began to accept St Laurent’s work for couture collections as time passed Dior began to use more of Yves sketches. Dior made Yves St Laurent his successor this is due to the fact that St Laurent’s work was so similar to that of Dior’s and the style that came natural to St Laurent so similar to Dior and Dior knew that St Laurent was able to continue his legacy of style he would leave behind, Dior later died at the age of 52. At the age of 21 Yves was the head designer of the house of Dior later on he was fired while the war he then sued Dior for breach of contract and won. Yves opened his own boutique with ready to wear clothes in 1966, which captured the heart of fashionistas with his beatnik look. Beatnik was a kind of media stereotype, which developed in the 1950’s, the beatnik look was all about blacks and dark colours, also wearing beret it was more of a French inspired look. Represented in cartoons such as Top cat and Doug. YSL took the fashion world by storm with his beatnik look, safari jackets, thigh high boots, but the look that made the most impression was the classic tailored suit, known as a tuxedo suit for women called the le smoking suit. Yves takes a lot of his revolutionary ideas from male fashion such as the blazer and leather jacket and made it feminine.
