    I think I read somewhere that once the ant ingests it the yeast expands, as it would in rising dough, and then the other ants ingest it and eventually they all explode!,

    cornmeal - it works on fire ants and just annoying red/black ants without hurting the garden. The smaller the ant, the smaller the cornmeal

Natural ways to get rid of spiders (we get black widows like crazy 10 to 30 at a time in the back yard). The best deterrent I've found is to just have a very very tidy yard with no places for them to hide, no nooks/crannies, no dead leaves, simple patio furniture that is exposed everywhere to the elements, so they can't make a nest under your chair...

    Don't put the cone all the way into the vinegar...just make the hole small cause they can't figure out how to fly back out...I have done this before and it works can use any glass just make sure you roll the cone so it fits in the top perfect
