Preheat oven to 150ºF, place pot of boiling water on the bottom rack and bowl with 1 cup of ammonia on the top rack. Close oven door and leave overnight. (Ammonia smells less after having sat in the oven.) In the morning, remove both and the racks and let oven air out for 15 minutes. Add 1-2 teaspoons of dish soap and a quart of warm water to the ammonia and use a scrubbing pad to wipe the oven. Wear gloves, ammonia can be caustic to skin. Sprinkle some baking soda to help cut through the gunk.

This homemade oven cleaner recipe is not only effective, it’s completely natural. Most of the ingredients are probably already in your cabinets and if not, they are really easy to find and inexpensive. You will need a cup of water, 10 drops of essential oils of your choice (lemon or orange are good ones) ½ cup of regular salt, 1 and ¼ cup of baking soda, ¼ cup of white vinegar and 2 teaspoons of liquid castile soap

Clean oven: preheat oven to 150, put ammonia in glass pan on top shelf and container of boiling water below it. Close oven door and let sit over night. Open door for 15 minutes to air before wiping clean with the ammonia, some dish detergent and can use a little baking soda on the glass. (I don't know about if that part is safe).

I hate having to use harsh chemicals to clean my house so this homemade oven cleaner was right up my alley. There aren’t any obnoxious fumes to deal with and after about 10 minutes, your oven will wipe clean.

Oven-Cleaner-Ammonia Water Baking soda Preheat to 200° then turn off. In a heat safe glass dish, fill with ammonia and set on middle rack (about 1 to 2 cups of ammonia). 3/25/12... Fail...Home made oven cleaner...I won't do this again. Our oven was relatively clean already and this method did not work to clean the small amount of funk we did have.
