Coral bells (huecheras) make a nice change from the ubiquitous hosta in the shade garden. 'Citronella' is especially nice because the intensely lime green leaves absolutely glow in the shade. Looks really nice with good old 'Palace Purple' too.

'Citronelle' coral bells (Heuchera 'Citronelle') - one of the best, brightest Heucheras for shade. Use the lime colored or varigated leaves of shade plants so they stick out in the shadows.

Heuchera x villosa is hearty, always comes up, and puts on a show like you cannot believe in the garden. The deer love it, so make individual small canopies of chicken wire to cover it
