Gene Kelly was a dominant force in musical films during the 1940's and 1950's, and he is single-handedly responsible for making ballet commercially acceptable to film audiences. He directed, choreographed, and produced various films in addition to his singing, dancing, and acting career. However, he is best known for his performance in the iconic musical Singing in the Rain. Kelly produced some of film's most innovative dance numbers and pushed the limits of the genre. -Steffanie Hassanally
