"The Road," by Cormack McCarthy (fiction)- I liked this one, reminds me of "Dog Stars". Post-apocalyptic story of father and son survivors
One of the better love stories I've ever read. Sad and bleak, but the love between father and son is amazing!
Survival under devastation, the bond between father and son, our vulnerability as humans on this planet. "If he was not the word of God, then God never spoke."
4th book read "The Road," by Cormack McCarthy. A book about a road trip...a very dark road trip

The Kitchen House. An excellent historical novel. It has been compared to The Help. But, it is a way better read.
Very good book. Our book club rated it 9.2/10. Though it is set in the late 1700s in the South, it feels surprisingly contemporary in the issues it addresses. It is surprising that a Canadian author could write so well about slavery.
The Kitchen House by Kathleen Grissom. Loved this book! Great pick by our book club-could not put this one down.

Poetry by Shel Silverstein Come in . . . for where the sidewalk ends, Shel Silversteins world begins. Youll meet a boy who turns into a TV set, and a girl who eats a whale. The Unicorn and the Bloath live there, and so does Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout who will not take the garbage out. It is a place where you wash your shadow and plant diamond gardens, a place where shoes fly, sisters are auctioned off, and crocodiles go to the dentist. books-worth-reading

The Road: Cormac McCarthy $11.99 (Kindle). Heart-rending story. Minimalistic writing. Unforgettable book.
The Road (Cormac McCarthy). This was just really good. Understated and straightforward but written with beautiful language and some heartfelt moments. A dad and young son "carry the fire" to the coast in a post apocalyptic cannibalistic world.
The Road - Cormac McCarthy This was so depressing but made me feel so appreciative of all our blessings

Just finished this book today. Narrated by Death, this book tells the story of a young girl in Nazi Germany. Amazing book
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. Trying to make sense of the horrors of World War II, Death relates the story of Liesel -- a young German girl whose book-stealing and story-telling talents help sustain her family and the Jewish man they are hiding, as well as their neighbors. Young Adult | Fiction | Historical.
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. An absolutely amazing book. Takes place in Nazi Germany, from the perspective of death and a poor German girl. I highly, highly recommend it.
"The Book Thief" Markus Zusak. Fiction. The book is set in Nazi, Germany. It describes a young girl's relationship with foster parents, the other resident's of their neighborhood, and a Jewish fist-fighter who hides in her home during WWII. New York Bestseller List (2006) for over 230 weeks. One of my favorite books because it is so well-written.
This is an AMAZING book. Sad and beautiful and full of very real characters. This book is a great way to teach adults and kids about the tragedies of war. Also a moving study of friendship and what it really means to be a family. And, like all good books with kids as the main character, it's even funny in places, because kids are funny. I truly loved this book.

The Group , by Mary McCarthy. How is it possible that a novel written in 1963 about a group of post-collegiate friends in New York City IN THE 1930S could still be so relevant? Probably because the struggles of being in your twenties — particularly, how much do you care about the opinions of other people, and what does success mean? — have been the same since the dawn of time.

Rereading Cormac McCarthy's The Road for book club. Realizing one of my favorite categories of fiction is catastrophe fiction.
The Road - Cormac McCarthy - is a beautifully written, post-apocalyptic story of a father and son who struggle to survive in a humane way after the nearly complete destruction of Earth and all living things has left very few bright spots among all the gray and darkness
The Road. By Cormac McCarthy. This postapocalyptic read is sure to become one of your favorite books of all time. It's the story of a father and son as they try to overcome the obstacles in their new society but most of all it's a story of love and sacrifice. - Angela
