4th book read "The Road," by Cormack McCarthy. It could be listed under Oprah's book club, a dystopian book or a book about a road trip
Survival under devastation, the bond between father and son, our vulnerability as humans on this planet. "If he was not the word of God, then God never spoke."
One of the better love stories I've ever read. Sad and bleak, but the love between father and son is amazing!
Survival under devastation, the bond between father and son, our vulnerability as humans on the earth. It's been long while since the ending of a book moved me to this degree.
"The Road," by Cormack McCarthy (fiction)- I liked this one, reminds me of "Dog Stars". Post-apocalyptic story of father and son survivors
Survival under devastation, the bond between father and son, our vulnerability as humans on this planet

"The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night." THIS IS ONE OF MY TOP FAVORITE BOOKS OF ALL TIME.

The Kitchen House by Kathleen Grissom. Loved this book! Great pick by our book club-could not put this one down.
Very good book. Our book club rated it 9.2/10. Though it is set in the late 1700s in the South, it feels surprisingly contemporary in the issues it addresses. It is surprising that a Canadian author could write so well about slavery.
The Kitchen House an exciting historical novel. This is going on my GOODREADS list, fast,,,,,,,

This story gets so much into the mind of the Hadley Richardson, Ernest Hemingway’s first wife and feels so real; I had to keep reminding myself it was fiction.
I've decided to start pinning the books that my friends and I are reading in our book club. First up: The Paris Wife - Paula McLain (about the wife of Ernest Hemingway)
The Paris Wife - Paula McLain (about the wife of Ernest Hemingway) It's perhaps a new favorite of mine! Highly recommend it
Paula McLain's novel The Paris Wife tells the story of Ernest Hemingway's first wife while dramatizing their life in Paris in the 1920s.
The Paris Wife, Paula McLain. Chicago, 1920: Hadley Richardson is a quiet twenty-eight-year-old who has all but given up on love and happiness—until she meets Ernest Hemingway

Blood Meridian, or The Evening Redness in the West by Cormac McCarthy
Book Club, Books Worth Reading, Evening Redness, Western Novel, Cormac Mccarthy, Reading List, Favorite Books, Books To Read
Blood Meridian (1985) by Cormac McCarthy. An epic novel of the violence and depravity that attended America's westward expansion, Blood Meridian brilliantly subverts the conventions of the Western novel and the mythology of the "wild west."
“Wolves cull themselves, man. What other creature could? And is the race of man not more predacious yet?” ― Cormac McCarthy, Blood Meridian, or the Evening Redness in the West

Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein. This was one of my favorite books of all time as a kid. Still love it!
Where the Sidewalk Ends 30th Anniversary Edition: Poems and Drawings [Hardcover], (childrens books, poetry, shel silverstein, childrens poetry, humor, kids, book, apryl skies, polyphony be you and accept me too, silverstein)
Where the Sidewalk Ends...this was my son's all time favorite book as he was growing up and it was another one I used a lot when teaching keyboarding! Shel Silverstein had an amazing way with words!
Poetry by Shel Silverstein Come in . . . for where the sidewalk ends, Shel Silversteins world begins. Youll meet a boy who turns into a TV set, and a girl who eats a whale. The Unicorn and the Bloath live there, and so does Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout who will not take the garbage out. It is a place where you wash your shadow and plant diamond gardens, a place where shoes fly, sisters are auctioned off, and crocodiles go to the dentist. books-worth-reading
Such a classic - Jono's fave. In our house we love all of Shel Silverstein's books.

Cormac McCarthy’s The Road: Father and Son’s Post-Apocalyptic Quest. Note to self: Notify book club about this one.
The Road - Cormac McCarthy This was so depressing but made me feel so appreciative of all our blessings
The Road - Cormac McCarthy, In the 48 hour span I read this book, I could not focus on anything but the characters' well-being. I would suggest reading it in one sitting. Even just one break was unbearable.
The Road - Cormac McCarthy! I thought it was wonderful and was my favorite book I read in grade 12!
The Road - Cormac McCarthy. Started to read it but I need to finish. A pretty good book so far
2006 – The Road, Cormac McCarthy 2006 was a good year for books indeed. Most essential is probably McCarthy’s The Road, the epitome of the harrowing post-apocalyptic novel, which takes so many risks, not least in its language, and cuts to the marrow. Also recommended: Fun Home, Alison Bechdel; The Children’s Hospital, Chris Adrian; Black Swan Green, David Mitchell; In Persuasion Nation, George Saunders; The Book Thief, Markus Zusak; Twilight of the Superheroes, Deborah Eisenberg
The Road - Cormac McCarthy. I couldn't put this down.

Another great book by Nicholas Sparks. "Taylor doesn’t know that this rescue will be different from all the others, demanding far more than raw physical courage. It will lead him to the possibility of his own rescue from a life lived without love and will require him to open doors to his past that were slammed shut by pain. This rescue will dare him to live life to the fullest by daring to love."

Reality scares me - more than fantasy, more than horror, more than science fiction, I am petrified by a realistically presented story that exposes humankind for what it is (or can be). The Road by Cormac McCarthy is just such a story.

"The Road" by Cormac McCarthy. The deeply disturbing and depressing story of a father and son in post-nuclear apocalypse America. The only book to make me cry this year. The only one that made me cry last year was also about a nuclear holocaust ("On the Beach" by Nevil Shute). Probably not the genre for me, then...
The Road (Oprah's Book Club) by Cormac McCarthy, http://www.amazon.com/dp/0307387895/ref=cm_sw_r_pi_dp_e5.prb0E8NP83
A Lens-of-the-Day review of Cormac McCarthy's moving tale of a father and son struggling to stay alive and retain their humanity in a post-apocalyptic world.
A haunting story. The road is an example of grace in the most disturbing of contexts. A story of love between father and son holding on to a thread of humanity.

A great book on learning how to be in the moment and stay focused on and enjoy what is going on right now. To many times we live in the past regretting things we've done or not done, or we are constantly projected into the future focused on what we want but don't yet have. This book helps us embrace what we have right now, at this moment.

“Room,” is a stunning book written by Emma Donoghue that will stick with readers long after they have read the final pages. Told through the eyes of a five-year-old little boy named Jack, Room & his Ma the only things he has ever known because he has been held, and was even born in Room, his entire existence. His only glimpses of the outside world are through a skylight above their room and the limited amount of television he has watched through his time there.
