Put a nail in a long-ish piece of wood, like a thick paint stirer. Then you can hang your picture on the nail and move the stick around till you decide on placement. Then tap frame to make a hole where you want the perminate nail.

This look is a little too modern for my taste, but I love to photo wall stairway concept. Warm it up a bit with different paint colors and a more ornate banister, some wood frames-love it.

Use toothpaste to perfectly hang a picture. Add a dab of toothpaste to the back of the picture where the nail will go. Once you've found the perfect place to hang your picture, press the picture against the wall so the toothpaste leaves a mark. Hammer a nail on the toothpaste spot. This is a great technique for hanging pictures in a straight row, or as a collage.

I wish I had thought of this. It would have saved me a lot of time patching holes.
