When we picked out our pack'n'play, I opted for the cheaper, simpler model which was just the play pen, no bassinet or changing table on top. And in that first month or two, all babies do is eat-sleep-poop.

Amazon.com: BreathableBaby Breathable Mesh Crib Liner, White: Baby "Ford started sleeping in his crib at three months and was not yet rolling over or moving around much…so I thought. I did not have bumpers in his crib for safety reasons, but after one night of him squirming himself to the side of the crib in his sleep, I quickly realized that we needed breathable bumpers in there. Baby arms and legs can easily get stuck between the crib slats and having the mesh liner in there has been a must."
