Mehndi Inspired Mandala by White Violet Art

The kolam, or "rangoli" is a traditional mandala, a geometric pattern, that women design in front of their houses during festivities. In Tamil culture is a strong form of expression by the women, who express their feelings in this secret way.

Mandala. The word "mandala" is Sanskrit, loosely translated to mean "circle." It can represent wholeness, and help the maker/viewer move into a more holistic, healing space.

This drawing could be looked at from many different angles. In my eyes it resembles a sun setting and the patterns in it represent the different layers and complexities of the sun. The medium used for the drawing is Zen Tangles.
