Quiet Critters. The students that are working quietly get to have a Critter sit on their desk for the rest of the work time.

Quiet Critters want to sit on your desk, see what you're doing, and get smarter. (Could remove them from the chatty students; those who still have their "critter" at the end of the "quiet" time could turn it in for a small reward.)

Love this management idea! Here's a bit of what the blog author says about them. "The Quiet Critters will only come out of their "sound proof" container if it's completely quiet. They have no mouths so they don't talk and like quiet."

quiet critters-when you decide it is important for students to be quiet pass out quiet critters- take them away from students who talk. At the end of the activity anyone who still has a quiet critter gets a prize, point, whatever you use.
