Pumpkin Trifle. From Country Woman 1993. A great alternative to pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving. I use homemade gingerbread. I have substituted Cool-Whip for the whipping cream. For a company Christmas party one year I took this and Lemon Trifle-used spice cake, no pumpkin or spices; and Chocolate Trifle-used spice cake, no pumpkin or spices. All three went over very well!
Christmas Trifle. 1 can crushed pineapple, 3 bananas, 1 jar red maraschino cherries, 1 jar green maraschinos, 3-1/2 c eggnog, 2 pkg instant vanilla pudding, 1 prepared angel food cake, 1 carton whipped topping, ¼ c walnuts
In a large saucepan, combine 2 cups sugar, cornstarch, and salt, mixing well. Add egg yolks and water to sugar mixture, whisking well to combine. Cook over medium heat, stirring often, until mixture thickens, 15 to 20 minutes. Remove from heat.
