Breast Cancer is not a Pink Ribbon

The mother had cancer of the womb, and her uterus, including her unborn baby inside, had to be removed. This is a ten week old embryo, the photograph was taken by an OB/GYN med student in India named Dr. Suparna Sinha. I felt compelled to pin this purely to share how precious life is even at a mere 10 weeks into it's creation. Just..... wow.Powerful.

A while back, at the entrance of a gym, there was a picture of a very thin and beautiful woman. The caption was “This summer, do you want to be a mermaid or a whale?” The story goes, a woman (of clothing size unknown) answered the following way: “Dear people, whales are always surrounded by friends (dolphins, seals, curious humans), they are sexually active and raise their children with great tenderness. They entertain like crazy with dolphins and eat lots of prawns. They swim all day and travel to fantastic places like Patagonia, the Barents Sea or the coral reefs of Polynesia. They sing incredibly well and sometimes even are on cds. They are impressive and dearly loved animals, which everyone defend and admires. Mermaids do not exist. But if they existed, they would line up to see a psychologist because of a problem of split personality: woman or fish? They would have no sex life and could not bear children. Yes, they would be lovely, but lonely and sad. And, who wants a girl that smells like fish by his side? Without a doubt, I’d rather be a whale.

This beautiful model, a burn survivor, did this photo shoot to, in her own words, "prove that scars do not change a person, they make that person who they become." What a gorgeous woman. BREATHLESS and indeed still BEAUTIFUL ♥

    Proof.

    Be brave

“For these young women, having their portrait taken seems to represent their personal victory over this terrifying disease. It helps them reclaim their femininity, their sexuality, identity and power after having been robbed of such an important part of it. Through these simple pictures, they seem to gain some acceptance of what has happened to them and the strength to move forward with pride."
