The Jazz Scene 1960. William Claxton photographed jazz musicians for record labels. Credited as the wife of be-bop trumpeter Donald Byrd. Her name is Lorraine Glover and Byrds song Elgy stands for her initials. Or her name is Yourna Byrd. dont quote me.

  • Berigan Taylor

NOT BILLIE HOLIDAY, but a pic I like anyway. This is either Lorraine Glover or Yourna Byrd on 48th Street, New York City cira. 1955-56. Both names have been mentioned for the wife of famous hard-bop trumpet player Donald Byrd.

  • Miss Bee

Not Billie Holiday - This is actually the wife of hard bop trumpet player Donald Byrd. Taken by William Claxton, 1960. There is on-going controversy about her name. Yourna Byrd vs. Lorraine Glover. One person stated that in Mr. Byrd's obituary that Lorraine Glover was listed as his wife, but he also recorded a song entitled Yourna that is said to be for his wife. Are they the same person? No matter, it's still not Lady Day!
