Lee Bible, in the tri-motored "Triplex", attempted a land speed record in 1929 on Daytona Beach. The Triplex weighed seven tons and was powered by three 12-cylinder Liberty Aircraft engines (1,200HP). Bible was clocked at 202MPH when the car suddenly swerved and crashed into the dunes and rolled for 200 feet, killing a cameraman. Bible was thrown from the car and also killed. He was 30MPH short of the record.
