Sgt. Cheryl Lebeau O’Brien: October 14, 1966 – February 27, 1991. Cheryl O’Brien was the first woman in the 1st Infantry Division killed-in-action. On February 27, 1991, she volunteered to be a door-gunner on a Blackhawk transporting the remains of fallen soldiers. During the mission her helicopter was shot down by Iraqi forces - 2 hours after the cease fire was declared. Cheryl, along with the other nine people onboard, died in the crash.
