Kids Books That Teach Important Life Lessons

I have noticed in my many years as a childcare worker, and a now a parent, that children are deeply touched by the books they read. This is why I like to read them books that teach important life lessons. During the many years that I have been reading books to children, these have stood out as some of the very best.

Children's Books About Australia: A List

Children's books about Australia

A great book about a strong woman! This Biography of Patiene Wright is a MUST read (I was hooked from the beginning). This would be a great book to assign students in upper elementary for a book report.

See Inside Famous Buildings This super cool flap book shows the inside of many famous buildings. It would be great to share some of these buildings with several different units to help visual students gain a better understanding of buildings during different time periods and of different cultures!

Have your child's teacher sign the book "Oh The Places You'll Go" at the end of each school year and then give it to him or her at their graduation. Also makes a great baby shower gift!! LOVE THIS IDEA!

Now and Ben: The Modern Inventions of Benjamin Franklin This book about the great inventor Benjamin Franklin helps kids to explore machines. I would use this book in a unit on inventions and machines. I would encourage students to create their own inventions after reading this book.

Coming Home This is one of the most life changing stories that my mother read to me as a child. Convinving kids to be different and to do the right thing even when no one else is! This book would be a great book to read anytime to upper elementary school kids. I think I could have the students draw pictures of themselves to relate the parable to their own lives.
