Atticus tells the children that they can not kill a mocking bird but they can kill all the blue birds they want because they are annoying. They eat peoples gardens, etc.
Blue Jays are known to mimic the calls of Hawks -- possibly to fool other birds into thinking there is a hawk nearby so the jays have full run of the bird feeder!
BLUE JAY - Cyanocitta cristata. . .S Canada, E & Central USA. Populations from W USA may be migratory.
The blue jay is a noisy, bold and aggressive passerine. It is a moderately slow flier. The blue jay can be beneficial to other bird species, as it may chase predatory birds, such as hawks and owls, and will scream if it sees a predator within its territory. It has also been known to sound an alarm call when hawks or other dangers are near, and smaller birds often recognize this call and hide themselves away accordingly
I miss my little blue jay Lak. She grew up well. So proud of my daughter bird :,)

A rare image of a flying peacock ! The National Bird of India is the Peacock , the large and majestic bird. It is a symbol of grace , joy , beauty and love.
A Rare Image of a Peacock in Flight: Peafowl males, aka peacocks, are best known for their extravagant eye-spotted tail feathers, which they prominently display during their courtship dance. The adult female (peahen) is grey and/or brown in color, while peafowl offspring (peachicks) are normally yellow and tawny in color with darker brown patches. Peafowl are forest birds that nest on the ground but roost in trees.
Flying peacock. My first thought at photo of this beautiful bird you always see walking around was "no, peacocks can't fly! Their tails are too long for balance, too heavy!" But- RESEARCH by DdO:) - http://www.pinterest.com/DianaDeeOsborne/animals-of-a-different - Peacocks can fly, only for very short distances. They fly into trees to escape predators or to find a place to roost for the night. To take off, they seem to jump & use their wings for a boost. (ask.com) -Photo pin via Nicholley73

The swans are the largest members of the waterfowl family Anatidae, and are among the largest flying birds. The largest species, including the mute swan, trumpeter swan, and whooper swan, can reach length of over 60 inches & weigh over 33 pounds. Their wingspans can be almost 10 ft. Compared to the closely related geese, they are much larger in size: feet and necks. They also have a patch of unfeathered skin between the eyes and bill in adults. Young are called Cygnet
