Jane Morris pre raphaelite Muse: La Belle Iseult 1858
"Guenevere or La Belle Iseult" (1854) -- William Morris. Morris's only extant oil painting. He abandoned it and it was eventually completed by Dante Gabriel Rossetti and Ford Madox Brown. The painting shows Jane Burden (who was to marry Morris in 1859) in the guise of King Arthur's consort. She stands before a crumpled bed that alludes to her adulterous love affair with Sir Lancelot.
"La Belle Iseult" by William Morris. Combining two of my favorite things - Arthurian legend and pre-Raphaelite painting.

An evening dress from the 1860s made of silk taffeta. Taffeta was an extremely popular material throughout the 19th century and was used in men and womens clothing especially skirts and petticoats. It was known as rustling silk because of the sound it made when moved and was often bought because of this quality.

Evening gown c.1866, Brocaded silk taffeta - This black silk faille two-piece dress was worn by an unknown woman in approximately 1866... The black ground creates a luxurious contrast to the multicolored floral sprays, which feature poppies, roses and bleeding hearts among other flowers. Perhaps most compelling is the multicolored silk fringe which frames the bodice and cuffs while echoing the gold brocade swags and floral sprays along the hem.

So pretty - Civil war era
It's Empress Maria Feodorovna of Russia when she was still Princess Dagmar of Denmark. She was the wife of Tsar Alexander III and the mother of the ill-fated last Tsar Nicholas II. She escaped to England and Denmark after the Russian Revolution and died in 1928. Her granddaughter Maria Nicolevnea resembles her very much. Maria was not as petite, but the eyes, and her curly dark hair are the same.

There is not an adequate amount of hatred to express what I feel for Victorian era fashions and the reenactors who like them. Abhor? Deplore? Detest? Nope, not strong enough. 'Nuke it from orbit' comes close.
