How to make an antique sign. After painting the sign (full tutorial included), use a soft cloth to apply a dark brown furniture wax in a thin layer to entire surface of sign. The wax will settle in the imperfections in the wood, giving the sign an authentically aged look. Allow wax to dry for 3-5 minutes, then buff to a shine with a clean cloth.

Cover the surface of your canvas with a thin coat of gel medium.Place the transparency ink-side down onto the gel medium and smooth out any air bubbles. Burnish it with the back of a spoon/bone folder, rub vigorously or flip the canvas over & rub from the underside. Lift corner to see if image transferred. Once it does, peel off the film completely.

Transfer any image to anything (fabric and wood) using this process. Can you imagine the possibilities?
Transfer Paper, Crafts Ideas, Remember This, Wood, Diy Crafts, Transfer Image, Image Transfer, Freezers Paper Transfer, Wax Paper
Transfer any image to anything (fabric and wood) You will need freezer paper, 8 1/2" x 11" paper, spray adhesive, ink jet printer and your imagination. Cut a piece of freezer paper a bit larger than your standard- sized paper. Spray your paper with spray adhesive and lay on the "paper side" of your freezer paper leaving the waxy side exposed. Trim the excess freezer paper using sissors. You now have a "reusable" sheet of transfer paper for all your projects. Set the printer to "mirror image". You will need to print the image on the "waxy" side of your paper. (be careful not to smudge the image) Now, wet the surface you are transferring too, however, your only want to "slightly" dampen the surface, not soak it! I dampened the surface and "burnish" using the back of a spoon until you have rubbed the entire image surface. Carefully lift the paper off and there you have it...an image transfer! Oh...and before I forget I mentioned that the paper is "reusable"... once you transfer your image you can simply wipe the "waxy" side with a damp cloth to remove any remaining ink. You now have a clean surface to print a new image for a new project. As I mentioned, this method works well on wood.
Great craft idea!!!!! Transfer any image to anything (fabric and wood) using this process. Can you imagine the possibilities? I MUST REMEMBER THIS!

How to "wallpaper" a surface with fabric & cornstarch!
Bathroom Design, Nate Berkus, The Doors, Fabrics Wallpapers Diy, White Doors, Fabrics On Wall, Diy Fabrics Wallpapers, Apartment Bedrooms, Coats Closet
Put fabric on the wall using this on Nate Berkus. It's not permanent and leaves nothing on walls-great for #bathroom designs #bathroom decorating
How to "wallpaper" using fabric I couldn't stand our boring white door anymore. Something had to be done. So over the weekend, we wallpapered it with a big, fun piece of fabric. I love it. And it's useful, too. There are four white doors in this corner of the apartment—bedroom, bathroom, coat closet, and outer door—and sometimes departing guests get confused about which one they came through. Now we'll just tell them to exit through the village. This fabric is fairly thin cotton from IKEA. It's called Britten Hus and designed by someone named Emma Jones. No relation that I know of, but clearly someone I would like. She's also got this handwriting print which I adore. Someone should use it! Bed sheets would work great, too. For this DIY fabric wallpaper project, you'll need water, cornstarch, a big brush (and a paint roller, if you want to do a larger wall), scissors, and maybe a craft knife if you have obstacles like we did. First mix up your paste, since it will need time to cool. I made way too much, but better safe than sorry. I don't think I even used half of it, so you might want to cut this recipe down. I adjusted a bit to get a nice consistency that's thickened, but pourable. Like really thick gravy. Boil 4 cups of water in a pot. Mix about 3/8 cup cornstarch with a little water in a small bowl until the powder is dissolved. Add the cornstarch mixture to the water slowly while stirring. Boil until thickened and then let it cool. In the meantime, measure the area you want to wallpaper and cut your fabric to size. I just made small cuts in the edge of my fabric and tore each side, since I knew it would make a straighter line than I could cut. I trusted that the design was printed to be aligned with the grain. Brush the entire door with paste, then begin applying fabric from the top down, adjusting and smoothing as you go. The paste is very forgiving and will allow you to smooth out wrinkles or peel a section back off and reposition it. If you need more paste in dry spots, just brush more on. It doesn't change the color of the fabric when it's dry. Use a scissors or Xacto knife to cut around any obstacles. We made a few quick slits where the lock and doorknob were, just to get the fabric fitted over them so we could continue smoothing out the rest of the door. Then we went back and trimmed carefully around the hardware with a knife. Apply more paste to stick down the raw edges. Finally, we back went around the sides of the door and applied a little extra paste to smooth down any loose edges. The paste will keep the raw ends from fraying. If you like, you can brush another coat of paste over the entire door, decoupage style. Our fabric was stuck down well enough and I liked the soft fabric texture, so I opted not to. If you use thicker fabric, it might be a good idea to glue it down a little better with a top coat, though. When you're tired of the fabric, just pull it off and your paint job is unharmed. You may need to use a damp sponge to wipe off any clear paste residue or thread stragglers. I'd also suggest machine washing brightly colored fabric first to make sure the dyes don't bleed when the fabric is moistened with paste—do a small test first.

SO neat, I had NO idea this was possible! Easy way to transfer ink from paper onto wood for a homemade sign. Tutorial: Vintage-looking painted sign from salvaged wood Today I have a little tutorial for you. I'm going to show you how to (easily!) make these sweet wooden signs. I promise- they're a cinch, they don't take long at all to make and cost pretty much nothing. You will need: piece of salvaged wood upholstery tacks or short nails (optional) hammer acrylic paint (background color) black acrylic paint (or other color to fill in letters) large paint brush small paint brush laser printer twine Sharpie Marker or other dull, rounded tool This project started with a pile of cedar fence pieces that we've had sitting in our backyard for ages. My husband had just loaded a good portion of them into our chiminea to be burned when I got the idea for these signs and was able to save them from becoming ash. I loved how grey and weathered they had become from sitting outside. Start by lightly sanding your piece of wood if it's too rough, or just wiping it off to remove any dirt or other loose particles.

so easy, so fun, the results are nearly immediate. alcohol ink dries very quickly on non-porous surfaces. start with a thin layer of the alcohol blending solution, spreading it evenly with a toothbrush. (this diffuses the color, brings out the saturation and extends the drying time.) then squeeze big drops of one color on the tile and watch it do the weirdest stuff ever.

Art w/ Rubbing Alcohol inks COLORS! Colors!
Alcohol Ink Tiles: "oh, those are alcohol inks. ceramic tile. easy. fun." i filed this away in my future creative explosions folder and forgot about it until i dashed into michaels last week for glue, took a wrong turn and wound up in the adirondack ink aisle instead. i took this as a sign, bought six bottles of ink and the alcohol blending solution, and ran over to home depot for ceramic tiles. sixteen cents each! then i went home and hit the bottle. alcohol-tile-2 alcohol-tile-3 alcohol-tile-4 alcohol-ink-6 alcohol-tile-5 so easy, so fun, just as sandra said it would be. the results are nearly immediate. alcohol ink dries very quickly on non-porous surfaces. start with a thin layer of the alcohol blending solution, spreading it evenly with a toothbrush. (this diffuses the color, brings out the saturation and extends the drying time.) then squeeze big drops of one color on the tile and watch it do the weirdest stuff ever. then just experiment with the color layering. adding another color to a wet layer will blend the two together, while adding color to a dry layer will create a distinct, bright color separation. try drawing directly with the tip of the bottle on the tile, moving the ink around with q-tips, and blowing it around with a straw. you'll get all sorts of interesting effects. every single one will be a surprise. and yes, once in a while a tile will wind up in a big muddy mess that just seems unfixable. don't throw it out. just squirt the thing with a coat of the alcohol blending solution, wipe it off and start over. this alcohol is very forgiving. when you're happy with the outcome, ink the sides of the tile for a more finished look. here's another step-by-step tutorial from julia of the spotted sparrow that shows you how to apply the ink with felt. i'll also emphasize that you MUST varnish the tile when you're finished with a waterbased (not solvent-based) sealer and let each coat dry COMPLETELY in between, as much as it TORTURES me to write that. i am a very impatient person and despise waiting, but there is no room for a cavalier attitude here. you must varnish that thing or the ink will scratch off. after four or five coats, you can back it with felt for a coaster, glue on a hanger and show it off on the wall, display it on a mini easel or even use it as a backsplash tile in your kitchen.
