The C7, powered by a 3.5 litre, 6 cylinder BMW engine, was constructed for the 1983 season. During the Le Mans 24 hours two Cubans and one Colombian took turns at the wheel and managed to come home a good ninth overall. The Porsche 956, which was unbeatable at the time, managed to win all other positions from 1st to 11th place. As Sauber had dared to disrupt this winning sequence, the team was given a place of honour on the Porsche poster with the comment “Nobody is perfect”.
Hap Sharp at the wheel of # 66. This was normally the car driven by Hall. Cars were swapped on the start line when it was found that Hall's had a fuel issue. It was quickly fixed just in time to start. Dave Friedman photo.
