August, Sander 1876-1964, German photographer. In 1901 he started working in a photography studio in Linz, Austria. In 1909 he left and set up a studio and Cologne, Germany. In 1911 he began his work "People of the Twenty-first Century", a series of portraits. In these portraits he tried to show a cross-section of people from the Weimar Republic.
